BREAKING: Tension Mounts As Appeal Court Delivers Judgment On Sacked APC Governor Today
The Abuja-based Appeal Court is set to deliver its judgment in the case of the sacked Governor of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, filed an appeal challenging the tribunal’s decision that sacked him and declared David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the state governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) initially declared Sule the winner of the governorship election, with 347,209 votes against Ombugadu’s 283,016 votes. However, the tribunal, in a split decision on October 2, nullified Sule’s election and upheld Ombugadu’s victory.
Governor Sule, represented by his counsel Wole Olanipekun (SAN), contends that the tribunal disregarded the submissions of their witnesses during the hearing, emphasizing that BVAS data were presented without proper consideration as evidence.
In response, Kanu Agabi, counsel to Ombugadu and the PDP, urged the court to dismiss Sule’s appeal against the tribunal’s judgment. Agabi argued that their evidence is primarily documentary, emphasizing the sufficient demonstration of BVAS validity during the tribunal proceedings, contrary to the claim that it was merely dumped without analysis.
Agabi referred the court to the tribunal’s judgment, asserting that the lower court meticulously explained how it reached its decision. The appeal court had previously reserved judgment on the matter but will deliver its verdict today amid mounting tension in the two opposing camps.
