BREAKING: Rivers Lawmakers Veto Gov Fubara After APC Told Them To Impeach Him
The Rivers State House of Assembly has once again challenged Governor Siminalayi Fubara by consolidating multiple amendments to the Rivers State Local Government Law.
In a move to resolve discrepancies within various amendments, including matters concerning appointments to the Local Government Commission and the remuneration of local government political office holders, the lawmakers merged the amendments into a single unified law, which they passed during a recent session.
During the session, Speaker Martin Amaewhule urged fellow members to remain focused despite the Governor’s remarks, emphasizing that the Governor lacks the legal authority to declare them non-existent. He encouraged them to prioritize effective representation for their constituencies.
Echoing the sentiment, Majority Leader Hon Major Jack criticized the Governor for dismissing them as non-existent, while the Deputy Speaker condemned the Governor’s remarks as misguided.
These developments come shortly after the APC Caretaker Chairman in the state called for renewed impeachment proceedings against the Governor. Governor Fubara had previously criticized the Assembly members’ conduct, asserting that their existence as legislators depended on his recognition, which he claimed was established through the Peace Accord initiated by President Bola Tinubu.
