BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu Loses Case Against FG
Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled against Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), in his bid to seek redress for alleged human rights violations by the Federal Government.
On Monday, Justice Omotosho dismissed Kanu’s lawsuit, which sought N1 billion in damages from the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Department of State Service (DSS).
Kanu had filed the suit, marked FHC/CS/1633/2023, alleging that the DSS and its Director-General infringed upon his right to a fair hearing. He claimed that the authorities obstructed his legal team’s access to him during his detention, thereby hampering his defense preparations for his ongoing criminal trial.
In delivering his judgment, Justice Omotosho ruled that Kanu did not substantiate his allegations with sufficient evidence. The court found no credible proof that Kanu’s interactions with his lawyers were unlawfully restricted or that DSS officials had illicitly monitored his communications with his legal counsel.
Consequently, the Judge concluded that Kanu’s claims of rights violations were not adequately supported and therefore dismissed his suit.
