BREAKING: Nationwide Strike: Tinubu, Cabinet Hold Crucial Meeting To Decide Minimum Wage
The Federal Executive Council (FEC) is set to convene today to address critical issues affecting the nation.
The agenda includes deliberations on the ongoing minimum wage dispute between the federal government and organized labor. The organised labour had embarked on nationwide strike several times due to the federal government’s inability to meet their demands.
The tripartite committee recently submitted its report to President Bola Tinubu. While the federal government has agreed to a minimum wage of N62,000, the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) are demanding N250,000.
The meeting is expected to review labor’s stance and determine a feasible wage, which will then form the basis for an executive bill to be presented to the National Assembly. This FEC meeting follows the last one held on May 13th and 14th, 2024.
Traditionally, the FEC meetings under the current administration are held on Mondays, a shift from the previous practice of Wednesday meetings presided over by the president and attended by cabinet members and top aides.
