BREAKING: Kaduna Bans Unverified Protests After Deadly Demonstrations Rocked The State

The Kaduna State Government has issued a stern warning that it will no longer tolerate any protests that are not approved by security agencies.

The government expressed concern that criminals are exploiting protests to loot, vandalize property, and terrorize innocent citizens, as seen in the incidents on August 1 and 5, 2024, in Kaduna and Zaria.

This warning was delivered in a statement on Saturday by Samuel Aruwan, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs. Aruwan stated that these recent events indicate that criminals are attempting to destabilize the state under the guise of legitimate protests.

The government acknowledged the constitutional rights of citizens to freedom of expression and assembly but emphasized that unapproved processions remain prohibited due to security concerns. Aruwan also noted that intelligence reports suggest that criminal elements are recruiting vulnerable individuals, including children, into their schemes.

The Kaduna State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani, has reviewed the ongoing security situation and reiterated that any criminal elements posing as protesters will be dealt with severely. Citizens are urged to continue observing the existing 6 p.m. to 8 a.m. curfew and to report any suspicious activities to the designated security hotlines.
