BREAKING: Jega Opens Up After Reports He Said 2023 Election Was Rigged

Former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, has reacted to reports he h refuted claims that he stated the 2023 general elections were compromised. Reports had quoted Jega as making these comments during a Senate-organized retreat in Akwa Ibom State last week.

In a statement released on his behalf by Princess Hamman-Obels, his Senior Research Assistant and Director of The Electoral Hub, Jega clarified that such reports were inaccurate and did not represent his stance. He emphasized that his remarks at the Senate Retreat in Ikot Ipene, Akwa Ibom State, did not include any statement suggesting the compromise of the 2023 elections.

The initial reports had alleged that Jega criticized the appointment of unscrutinized individuals in positions of power, leading to compromised electoral integrity. However, Jega firmly denied making any comments regarding the integrity of the 2023 polls.

This rebuttal from Jega aims to rectify the misrepresentation in the media, clarifying his actual statements and reaffirming his position that he did not assert the compromise of the 2023 elections during the Senate retreat.
