BREAKING: Gunmen Storm Plateau, Kidnap Students
Armed men abducted two students from a Calvary International Ministry (CAPRO) school in Gana Ropp, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, in the late hours of Wednesday. One of the abductees escaped while the attackers took the other.
The school, which is a few kilometers from the Yakubu Gowon Airport in Heipang in the same local government district, was invaded with the intention of kidnapping the students, but timely intervention by security agents forced the attackers to flee, leaving two students abducted, one of whom later escaped during a gun fight between security personnel and the abductors.
This is not the first time CAPRO, an international interdenominational missions organization, has been targeted; the organization’s founder, Pastor Bayo Famonure, and his family were attacked last year, but only suffered minor injuries.
Attempts to contact the State Police Command’s Spokesperson, ASP Gabriel Ubah, were unsuccessful because he was not answering his phone at the time of the story.
Meanwhile, the State Executive Council has authorized the purchase of 50 patrol pickup vans and 200 security motorcycles for distribution to security agencies in the state, bolstering efforts to combat crime and insecurity.
Little Rayfield Jos, Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dan Manjang, briefed reporters after the weekly State Executive Council Meeting held at the New Government House, saying the decision was made to improve the security agencies’ capacity to respond to various challenges across the State.
