BREAKING: FG Finally Decides To Dock Emefiele Today
former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, is scheduled to face trial on charges related to economic sabotage, as brought forward by the Federal Government. The trial, which was postponed approximately 24 hours ago, is set to take place at a High Court in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Emefiele, alongside one Ramalan Yaro, will be arraigned before Justice Hamza Muazu, according to a notice for the trial. The ex-CBN Governor is expected to enter his plea of guilty or not guilty during the proceedings.
A registrar from the court, preferring to remain anonymous, confirmed that Emefiele would be presented before the court for the plea-taking process. Maxwell Opara, one of the lawyers in Emefiele’s defence team, also attested that the notice of arraignment had been duly served on the former CBN Governor.
Emefiele will be accompanied to court by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Matthew Burkaa, who, having signed an undertaking, is responsible for bringing him to trial. This undertaking was part of the conditions for Emefiele’s bail, granted by Justice Olukayode Adegbola Adeniyi of the FCT High Court.
