Sen. Bassey Otu, a former senator from Cross River State’s Southern Senatorial District, has been confirmed as the party’s standard-bearer in Cross River State for the general elections in 2023.
On Monday, October 24, 2022, the Federal High Court in Calabar ruled on Otu’s candidacy, according to News Direct.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, who presided over the court’s meeting today, dismissed the lawsuit filed by Owan Enoh, an APC candidate for governor in the state who had earlier asked the court to ban Otu from running for governor in the upcoming general elections in 2023.
Recall that Otu won the party’s nomination for governor in the primaries held in May 2022.
In her ruling today, Justice Ojukwu said, “A candidate contesting for the governorship position must be a Nigerian, meet the stipulated age requirement and have basic qualifications according to the constitution.”
She said the matter of determination of a governorship candidate of a political party is, and remains, the right of a political party.
