BREAKING: Buhari Gives Education Minister 2 Weeks To End ASUU Strike
Malam Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, has been given a directive by President Muhammadu Buhari to end the protracted industrial action that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other university-based unions have started.
Following briefings from the various government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) participating in the ongoing efforts to end the standoff with the university unions, the President issued the order on Tuesday.
In order to learn more about why the strike had continued for so long, Buhari had summoned them.
On February 14, ASUU began a one-month warning strike, and other unions soon followed suit in protest of what they claimed was the federal government’s failure to satisfy their demands.
After Tuesday’s briefing, the President ordered the education minister to ensure that the areas of disagreements were sorted out within two weeks and report back to him.
Sources at the meeting also said Buhari directed that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige must be in any of the meetings to resolve the crisis.
