Boko Haram: Terrorists Takes Over Dikwa, Breaks Into UN Hub In Borno
Boko Haram militants on Monday evening displaced security operatives and took control of the ancient town of Dikwa in Borno, northeast Nigeria.
Dikwa town is about 90km from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital and has experienced several attacks from the insurgents since the liberation of the town in 2016.
The town also hosts the military Super Camp 9 where the Army Chief visited last week and gave order for the retaking of Matte, which is about 20km away.
The attack on Dikwa came barely days after the military engaged the insurgents in a battle to retake Marte Local Government Area from the militants.
According to sources who spoke with our correspondent, the insurgents have also taken control of the United Nations hub.
Security information sent to DAILY POST reads: “Information indicates Dikwa has been overrun by the NSAG and attempting to gain access into the UNHUB Confirmed…, the AOG penetrated into Dikwa Hub. Urgent response team is needed at the hub please. The hub has been broken by the ISWAP-BHT. They are currently inside the premises of the hub.”

Effort to get the military’s response to the report from Dikwa proved abortive as at the time of this report. However, sources within the security operatives said effort is being made to reinforce and engage the militants.
In another development, Boko Haram militants are also attacking Bukarti, Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Yobe State is about 120km from Maiduguri in the northeast Nigeria.
The attack on Burkarti in Yunusari Local Government Area, about 200km from Damaturu, the state capital is coming barely 24 hours after residents reported strange movement and gathering of suspected militants in the area.
