ATIKU/OKOWA Presidential Campaign Council Clears Air On Atiku’s Meeting With British Government
With less than two months to the February 25 presidential election, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar yesterday held a strategic meeting with the British government which has sparked reactions.
According to the ATIKU/OKOWA Presidential Campaign Council, the Nigerian media platforms that covered the event stated that the meeting was based on knowledge of internal polling by the British government which they have in a statement signed by the Director of Strategic Communications, Dele Momodu refuted.
In the council statement, they are not aware of any such polling, citing that it is a tradition for foreign governments to seek audiences with leading candidates in a forthcoming election and this is not an exception.
The statement reads;
“We have seen reports of the meeting of the PDP Presidential candidate Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar with British authorities in London yesterday and wish to thank the Nigerian media for their kind coverage.
However, we wish to correct the impression that the invitation was based on our knowledge of internal polling by the British government. We are not aware of any such polling. It is a tradition for foreign governments to seek audiences with leading candidates in a forthcoming election and this is not an exception. The two mainstream political parties in Nigeria are PDP and APC and we are truly honored by this invitation.”

Atiku, who had been on vacation in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) since January 1, arrived in London on Monday for the meeting.
The British government had earlier met with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu and the presidential candidate of Labour Party, Peter Obi before meeting with Atiku.
