At last, INEC reveals authentic Edo 2024 APC governorship primary outcome

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has cautioned aspirants in the Edo state governorship poll billed for September 21, against flouting the commission’s ban on political campaigns.

While noting that political campaigns would begin legally from April 24, 2024, the commission admonished aspirants to remove all their campaign billboards or face appropriate sanction.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), in the state, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, who disclosed this to journalists in Benin City on Monday, also berated media organisations who he said televise, publish such campaigns.

Asked where and which of the All Progressives Congress (APC) guber primary the commission monitored last Saturday in Edo state, the REC said: “the Supreme Court has taken decision on the monitoring of party primaries.”

According to Onuoha, “We were notified by APC, and we monitored the one we were invited to at Lushville Hotel. I was there, that was where I went.

“Party primaries are the primary duties of political parties. Our own is to supervise, and in doing such supervision, the party will tell us the venue.

“It is not the state chapter of the party that will tell us the venue. The national body will write to INEC National Chairman, and state the venue, date and the time of the primary.

“And that we have followed strictly. Any political party primaries that was not minuted to us by our headquarters, we will not monitor.”
