APC: Before Ekiti people further progress in error

By Ogbeni Rufus Akinlotan

Before the advent of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the South West leaders of the progressives family, majority of whom today are in the APC, have a unique way of managing situations, such that every part of the region is carried along.

It was the same strategy that was deployed to accommodate Ekiti State in the leadership of the party,  following the fall of Ekiti to the opposition in 2014.

Following the defeat of Governor Kayode Fayemi at the time,  to ensure continued emotional and physical attachment to the party,  former Ekiti Governor, Segun Oni, emerged Deputy National Chairman,  South of the party.

After Oni’s resignation to contest the governorship of Ekiti,  Niyi Adebayo stepped in, largely out of honour and respect the leadership has for him, not necessarily because the position was ever zoned to Ekiti.

Now, in the whole of the South West,  Oyo is the only state without an APC governor in place. Will it be out of place,  in the spirit of carrying everyone along to allow former Oyo State Governor,  Senator Abiola Ajimobi to occupy the position?

At any rate, his choice enjoyed a majority support. After all, at a meeting where the leaders took the decision to have him occupy the position, only Fayemi, Amosun and Akeredolu objected to it. The other leaders voted for it, and that was how it became the decision of the majority. In a democracy,  minority would always have their say, but majority their way.

After losing at a well attended caucus meeting of the leaders,  why continue to make unnecessary and unreasonable demand.

It is irresponsible to make a demand for a thing that is not one’s birth right and that which one had lost in an open but highly competitive contest.

Eyin Omo Ekiti ati ara Ekiti, ati eyin ore alabosi  ki ni problem yin na!
