All You Need To Know About Barr. Imo Akpan, Akwa Ibom’s New RMAFC Federal Commissioner

Barr. Imo Efiong Akpan is not a new name in Akwa Ibom State due to his very vocal and solid stance on political issues as it concerns the State and the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

From the days of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, (ACN) till date, Barr Imo as he is fondly called by friends and foes alike, has never failed to make his voice heard across the different media platforms in the country.

It therefore came as no surprise when his name was announced as one of the Federal Commissioner-nominees of the Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) by the President representing Akwa Ibom State.

Here are some important things to know about this lawyer, public servant and social commentator who will replace Anyang Sunday Okon, as the new Federal Commissioner of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) for Akwa Ibom State.

EARLY LIFE.
Imo Efiong Akpan shares the same birthday with his dear state, Akwa Ibom state.
The legal luminary was born on the 23rd of September, 1976 to Late Prof E.U.U Akpan and Mrs Victoria Akpan.
He hails from Ikono Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

EDUCATION
Imo Akpan obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate in 1995 from the Demonstration Secondary School, University of Jos, Plateau State.

He holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) Degree from the University of Jos where he graduated in 2002.

He proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Bwari Abuja where he qualified as a Barrister-At-Law (BL) and was called to Bar in 2004 thus becoming a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

CAREER.
After Law School, Imo Akpan was posted to Kano State where he participated in the compulsory National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) in Tudun Wada LGA.

He joined the Law Firm of James Essien and Co as Partner and later founded Cardinalli Chambers and Co. He served as Company Secretary/Legal Adviser to Triple Tower Petroleum Resources Limited and Green Olives Hotels and Restaurants Limited between 2006 and 2014.

POLITICAL CAREER
Barr. Imo Akpan was a member of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, (ACN) where he contested elections as the Chairmanship Candidate of the party in 2012.

In 2015, he was the APC candidate for the House of Representatives position for Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency.

He has been a loyal party man and has served the party in many capacities namely;
State Secretary/Head of Administration, Akwa Ibom State Grassroots Movement for Buhari/Osinbajo (2019), State Secretary, APC Youth Caucus, Akwa Ibom State and
Spokesperson, Akwa Ibom State APC Governorship Campaign Organization in the 2023 Elections.

In June 2023, Barr. Akpan was appointed as the Special Assistant to the President of the Senate on Legal Matters, a position he held until his recent appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

He will be assuming duties as Federal Commissioner in RMAFC with a rich background in Law practice and advisory services.

PERSONAL LIFE
Barr. Akpan is married to Queenette, the Executive Director of Queenette Initiative for Health and Education (QIHE) and Managing Director of Faze Auto Co Ltd and they are blessed with 3 children.
