Augustine Eguavoen, the Nigerian national team’s interim coach, has resigned.
This comes after the Super Eagles’ 1-0 round-of-16 loss to Tunisia in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
Eguavoen had led the three-time winners to victories over Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau in a row.
In the final stages, however, they were defeated by a Tunisian team suffering from Covid.
“What happens next is that I’m the interim coach and Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“I will go back to my position and allow the NFF (to) make a decision on the way forward,” Eguavoen said after the match.

After Gernot Rohr was fired last month, Eguavoen took over. Prior to the start of the AFCON, the NFF confirmed Jose Peseiro as the new permanent coach.
Tunisia upset Nigeria’s Super Eagles by knocking them out of the African Cup of Nations 2021 two minutes into the second half, according to SaharaReporters.
The Carthage Eagles scored their first goal of the game on a strike by Youssef Msakni.
Msakni’s shot from outside the 18-yard box was misjudged by Nigerian goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who parried it into the net.
The Super Eagles faced a tough challenge in the first half of their Africa Cup of Nations match against Tunisia.
In the 21st minute, a cagey opening controlled by Nigeria got difficult as Tunisian attackers placed pressure on Nigeria’s defenders.
Moses Simon and Kelechi Iheanacho, two of the game’s most talented strikers, struggled to make an impact as they were only given a few minutes on the pitch this evening.
Simon was instrumental in the Super Eagles’ victories over Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea Bissau in their group matches.
