24 Hours After Supreme Court Judgment, Peter Obi, Atiku Have Been Mute – Presidency Reveals
The Presidency has disclosed that 24 hours after the judgment of the Supreme Court on the 2023 presidential election, both Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi have remained mute.
The Special Adviser to the President Bola Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, disclosed this. Onanuga, however, affirmed that the President had always been open about his intention to work harmoniously with the opposition.
He pointed out that 24 hours after the Supreme Court ruling, both Atiku and Obi who are the presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and that of the Labour Party, LP, respectively had chosen to remain silent.
When reminded that Obi was out of the country, Onanuga emphasized that geographical distance should not hinder communication, stating, “The world is a global village. Regardless of Obi’s location, he can still congratulate the President. Doing so would demonstrate his acceptance of the Supreme Court’s verdict, which we all know is final.”
Regarding Tinubu’s willingness to cooperate with opposition candidates, Onanuga stated, “If you read the President’s statement from yesterday (Thursday), you’ll notice he extended an olive branch to them, expressing his openness to their involvement in his government. This aligns with his stance since May 29 when he took office. He views their challenges to his victory as a democratic norm, considering all of them as brothers, members of the same family residing in different rooms within the same house.”
