Shehu Sani Reacts After FIRS Boss Says It Is Unfair For Lagos, Rivers, FCT To Have 70% VAT Proceeds

A former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to the statement made by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji on Monday.

The Guardian had earlier reported that the Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Dr. Zacch Adedeji, had in a meeting with members of the national assembly described the allocation of 70% of value-added tax (VAT) proceeds to Lagos, Rivers, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as unfair to the remaining 34 states.

Reacting to the statement, Senator Shehu Sani stated on his verified Twitter page on Tuesday; “The revelation made yesterday by the FIRS Chairman before the House of Reps that presently only 4 states corner the 70% of VAT namely Lagos, Rivers, Oyo and FCT is unjust.”

He added; “This is a strong justification for the Tax reform. He also cited an example of the MTN paying most of its VAT to Lagos while all the states are paying for its services.”

The Peoples Democratic Party chieftain stated further; “I still admonish the critics of the Bill to remove their political lenses and read the document thoroughly.”

He noted; “The Bill will ensure equity, fairness and allocate more resources to all other states. All the sentiments raised against the Bill is not contained in the Bill. The Bill should be supported to end the prevailing Tax injustice in the country.”

The recent statement by the former federal lawmaker representing Kaduna Central in the red chamber of the national assembly and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Shehu Sani, on his verified Twitter page has generated a lot of reactions from his fans and numerous followers on the social media platform.
