Fubara’s Move To Probe Wike Causes Panic Among His Allies, Some Have Left Rivers – Insiders
Political tensions in Rivers State have reached a boiling point with the departure of multiple commissioners from the State Executive Council, reportedly in response to Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s decision to probe the administration of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
According to insider reports, Governor Fubara’s investigation has stirred unease among Wike’s supporters, prompting their resignations from the cabinet. This move is perceived as an effort to sidestep potential invitation for them to come and testify before the Judicial Panel of Enquiry.
Local legal practitioner Preye Samuel defended the Governor’s authority to launch the probe, stating, “The move by Governor Siminalayi Fubara is a welcome development. He has not acted outside the purview of the law. Those who have given a political colouration to the move to institute a panel of enquiry are entitled to their opinion. It doesn’t change the fact that issues must be resolved, and the best way is what the governor has done.”
He emphasized the necessity of addressing issues through appropriate channels, affirming the Governor’s approach as the most effective.
Meanwhile, the resignations have sparked jubilant scenes in certain areas of the state, particularly among those opposed to the former Governor’s administration.
An anonymous high-ranking political source disclosed that the exodus of commissioners aligned with Wike’s camp reflects their apprehension in the face of Governor Fubara’s investigative efforts.

“Those commissioners have taken their destinies into their hands. Some have left the state with their families because it is no longer comfortable for them. They fear the probe panel that the governor wants to institute,” the source revealed.
