Fresh Report Reveals How Iran Hackers Target Trump, Harris Campaigns For Major Attack

Google confirmed on Tuesday that hackers, believed to be backed by Iran, have been targeting the U.S. presidential campaigns of Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

The hacker group known as “APT42,” linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, has been attempting to infiltrate high-profile individuals and organizations in both Israel and the United States, including government officials and political campaigns.

A report released by Google revealed that APT42 has been trying to compromise the personal accounts of individuals associated with President Joe Biden, Vice President Harris, and Trump. The group’s tactics include phishing attempts, where they pose as credible contacts to deceive targets into revealing their login credentials.

Despite these efforts, the Harris campaign stated that they have robust cybersecurity measures in place and have not experienced any breaches. Google continues to monitor and block APT42’s attempts to infiltrate these campaigns, emphasizing the persistent threat posed by this sophisticated hacking group. The U.S. State Department has also issued a warning to Iran regarding the consequences of election interference.
