Ekpa: I Wonder Why They Kill and Kidnap Their Brothers and Sisters in the Name of Biafra —Rev. Okoye

The Catholic Bishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye, has expressed strong condemnation of the activities linked to Simon Ekpa, a controversial Biafra agitator based in Finland. Speaking during the burial of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi, the bishop criticized Ekpa for allegedly orchestrating violence and economic disruption in the South-East under the guise of pursuing Biafra independence, as reported by Punch.

“These people say they want Biafra Republic, and I wonder why they kill and kidnap their brothers and sisters in the name of the same Biafra,” Rev. Okoye lamented. He accused Ekpa of engaging in guerrilla warfare that has devastated the region’s economy and inflicted suffering on its residents.

The bishop also highlighted the hypocrisy of Ekpa’s actions, pointing out that Ekpa’s hometown in Ebonyi State does not observe the controversial sit-at-home orders, while other parts of the South-East are forced into compliance.

Rev. Okoye commended the Finnish authorities for taking action against Ekpa and urged them to maintain a firm stance. He further appealed to the Nigerian Senate, represented at the event by Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other senators, to address the security challenges in the South-East and support Governor Charles Soludo’s efforts to protect lives and property in Anambra State.
