Edo South Business Forum accuses Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu of insulting indigenes in diaspora

The Edo South Business Forum has strongly criticized Edo Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu for his remarks regarding the eligibility of candidates for public office in the State.

Shaibu had stated that Edo ought to be governed by a ‘home boy’ and not people who live outside the State.

Shaibu’s stance, which suggests that only individuals residing in Benin should be considered for the governorship, has been labelled as an attempt to promote incompetence and an insult to Edo people living in the diaspora.

In a statement signed by the convener of the forum, Osazuwa Imafidon, stated that ”Shaibu’s narrow viewpoint disregards the achievements of Edo people who have excelled in major commercial hubs such as Lagos, Port Harcourt, and Warri.”

The Forum expressed concerns that ”Shaibu’s position reflects a regressive mindset and an exclusionary approach that could hinder the progress and development of Edo State.”

They argued that ”effective leadership is not limited by geographical location but is instead defined by competence, vision, and the ability to drive positive change.”

The forum called on Deputy Governor Shaibu to reconsider his stance and acknowledge the valuable contributions of Edo people living abroad.

”The real measure of a leader’s capability lies in their vision, competence, and ability to drive positive change, irrespective of their place of residence.

”The Edo South Business Forum stands firmly against any attempt to limit the pool of leadership talent based on outdated and exclusionary criteria.

”We urge the Deputy Governor to adopt a more inclusive and progressive stance that recognizes the value of the Edo people, wherever they may reside, in contributing to the advancement of our state,” the statement concluded.
